Help & Advice

Teenage Parents

4Dadz2

The Young Dads group started in Bury in February 2009, with the aim of supporting young father's to fulfil their role as a parent.  This is one of only a handful of young dads projects in the country.

Activities are needs led and are being identified as the project runs, with the young people at the centre of planning.  We offer a mixture of practical support that may involve partnership work with other agencies in Bury as well as personal & social development opportunties through positive activties.  We aim to ensure that the young father's are getting the appropriate support and activites to increase confidence, skills and knowldege as both a parent and as an individual. It also provides the opprtunity for the young dads to meet and share experiences as well as offering each other support.

Usually activities take place on Tuesdays at various times/venues.  For more info ring or text Mark Allen (253 6695 or 07827 084516) or Tony Beesley (253 6444 or 07824 624290)

Our Stories

Ryan Labrow

I heard about the dad’s group through the 4U+Baby2 group at the New Kershaw Centre (a support group for young parents) that I went to with my girlfriend and son.

When I went along to the group I got a lot of information and help, it’s really helped me to be the dad I am today. We have a lot of fun- it’s a great laugh. It’s a balance between helping us be better dads, having fun and learning things we can do with our babies. Mark, Adam and Tony are great youth workers, they are really helpful and fun. I couldn’t ask for anymore from anyone in the group- we all help each other out.

The best thing about being a dad is seeing the look and smile on his face, through the group I’ve grown more in confidence with my son and am doing more with him.

Mark Adams

When I found out my girlfriend was pregnant I was scared about being a dad. When my baby was born I felt like everything was aimed at supporting the mum and there was nothing for dads.

Then one day I got a letter though the door saying there was a group for young dads which I was really interested in. I went along and since I’ve been going I feel I’ve got the support I need and I feel like I could be a better dad. Its been great meeting new people and I now have more confidence about being a dad and I’ll never look back!
