Elton
The young people from Elton Area Youth Action Group met on 3rd November for an extra special meeting to decide whether to form an Interact Group, which is basically a young Rotarians Group. This would be a fund raising group looking at supporting the local community, as well as supporting national and international causes. They were very interested so they met with three members of the Rotary to learn more and have decided to go ahead. They need to recruit 10 more young people and have asked me to promote it on their behalf in schools, and they are also recruiting some young people.
They will continue to meet as a Youth Action Group with a specific interest in addressing issues in the Bury West community and enhancing services and facilities, but will then go on to look at fund raising projects linked with and supported by the Rotary. Of course all of their hard work will be acknowledged through the Vinvolved Award and from the satisfaction they will gain from putting something back into the community.
Some of them will be assisting the Rotary in planting daffodil bulbs on Sunday, and the group (separate from the Rotary) are currently planning a Christmas inter-generational event, and, if they get it off the ground, the proceeds will be going to buy Christmas presents for children in hospital over the Christmas holidays.
