The Debate - Tuesday 14th July 6-8pm, Bury Council Chambers

A group of young people from Bury's Youth Cabinet have organised a debate in Bury Council Chambers at the Town Hall . Councillors and other adults are invited to sit in the public gallery, watch and ask questions to young people after the debate.

The debate topic is:

'A local authority youth service is not necessary as it is the parent’s responsibility to provide young people with sufficient funds to engage in positive activities.'

This is a great example of active citizenship and we hope to fill the council chambers!

Bury Children and Young People’s Charter

Young people in Bury came together to discuss their hopes for life in Bury through the development of a Children and Young People’s Charter. Their wish is that this charter will be supported by all adults working with and for children and young people across the borough.

Bury is a place where we are:

- Respected and valued for our opinions.
- Treated fairly and free to be unique.
- Listened to, supported, safe and happy.
- Encouraged to achieve our full potential.
- Involved in decision making that affects us.

Bury is a place where we have:

- Safe, accessible places for young people to gather.
- Accessible and affordable leisure opportunities.
- Good information and advice about a range of issues.
- A good education that includes life skills.
- Affordable and reliable public transport.

Youth Service Under Threat

In response to being inundated with concerns and in the light of the Bury Times article on the 5th Feb we ask you to please contact your local councillor or MEP if you have any comments or suggestions.

Young People in Bury collected over five and a half thousand signatures of people who do not want the externalisation of Bury Youth Service and want services for young people to remain under the direct control of the local authority.
